PCGuard provides practical technology solutions and personal support to businesses across South Africa.
PCGuard’s roots date back to 1997, when Werner van Brakel established GVB after working as a consultant from 1995. His goal was to use his practical technology knowledge and support experience to help people and businesses solve real problems.
The business later became PCGuard and expanded its services to include IT support, Sage Accounting, web hosting, software solutions, and computer equipment.
Based in Pretoria, PCGuard supports businesses of different sizes throughout South Africa through both remote and on-site assistance. Werner brings more than 30 years of experience in accounting software, technical support and business technology.
Although technology and the business have evolved over the years, the approach remains the same: understand each client’s needs, recommend a practical solution and provide reliable, personal support.
One of PCGuard’s early innovations was the Computer Bridge Security System. Its development reflects Werner’s practical approach to technology: identifying a real problem and creating a solution designed to address it.

Onsite IT Support
Assists clients onsite with computer problems, installations, repairs, networks, and day-to-day technical support. He focuses on solving problems efficiently and getting clients back up and running.
Werner van Brakel
Founder and Owner
Founder of PCGuard and brings 30 Years of practical experience to the business. He works closely with clients, visits businesses when needed, and provides remote support and guidance to find the right IT solution.
Kobus Loubser
In-office IT Support
Works from the PCGuard office, assisting with computer setup, repairs, technical queries, and remote support. He helps ensure that clients receive reliable assistance and that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
Part of Pastel’s Development History
Werner van Brakel’s experience with Pastel Software dates back to 1994, when he worked as a support consultant and received the company’s Best Support Consultant award.
He was also part of the beta-testing team for Pastel’s first fully interfaced software package, known during development as Project Rio.
His contribution was formally acknowledged in the software itself, with his name appearing under the beta testers in the Help → About section up to version 4.04d.
